Bi-laws for Gardeners With Altitude
Navajo County Master Gardener Association And Associates
Membership
Section 1 Members of the Gardeners With Altitude (MG Association) are graduates of the Navajo County
Master Gardener Training Program of the U. of A Cooperative Extension, and all levels of
Gardeners (Associates) in Navajo County.
Section 2 To be certified as a Master Gardener, graduates must complete 40 hours of volunteer/ continuing
education in the first year after completion of the MG Training Program.
Section 3 Beginning in 2011, all certified MGs must document 12 volunteer hours and 6 continuing
education hours each calendar year in order to remain a Master Gardener.
Officers/ Board Members
Section 1 Officers shall consist of a President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.
Section 2 Officer vacancies shall be appointed by the Executive Committee until the next
election is held.
Section 3 Board members shall consist of Committee Chairs appointed by Officers, including
but not limited to the following committees: Education/Social; Master Gardener Projects;
Volunteer Support; Community Programs.
Duties of Officers/ Board Members
The President Shall:
A. Preside at all general and special meetings of the Gardeners With Altitude, and at Executive Committee meetings.
B. Appoint the chairpersons of all standing committees and any special committees.
C. Consult with the Master Gardener Program Director to coordinate efforts of the Gardeners With Altitude.
D. Be a non-voting member of all committees except the Executive Committee.
E. Set the agenda for each meeting with the help of the secretary.
F. Prepare an annual report for the Gardeners With Altitude.
The Vice-President Shall:
A. Assume duties assigned by the President, and assist the President as needed.
B. Serve as parliamentarian, when needed. Roberts Rules of Order will be standard.
C. Shall perform meet and greet function at meetings and events.
D. Attend committee meetings as requested by the President and provide the
Executive Committee with reports when needed.
The Treasurer Shall:
A. Keep an account of income and disbursements.
B. Prepare and submit accounts for annual report.
C. Will report at each meeting.
The Secretary Shall:
A. Record minutes of all meetings and notes on Executive Committee meetings and add agenda
to the website one week prior to meeting.
B. Post minutes from meeting on website as soon as possible.
C. Keep a record of attendance at all meetings.
D. Communicate with individuals, groups and organizations as directed by the
President and Vice-President.
E. Maintain and update the Association website along with approved guest writers.
Education/Social Chair Shall:
A. Update website with applicable events, classes, social events, and continuing education opportunities
pertinent to GWA members.
B. Plan, with committee members, events, classes and social events for the GWA members and the public.
Master Gardener Projects Chair Shall:
A. Update website with volunteer opportunities.
B. Plan, with committee members, volunteer projects.
C. Review, with committee members, MG project requests, and present to Board for approval.
Volunteer Support Chair Shall:
A. Track volunteer and continuing education hours for Master Gardeners who provide
this information. Report hours when requested.
B. Prepare certificates for MG graduates and certified MGs.
C. Order MG pins for certified MGs.
Community Programs Chair Shall:
A. Plan, with committee members, Garden Tours, Plant Walks, and other Community Programs.
B. Plan GWA participation in Community Programs like Home Shows and Fairs.
Elections of Officers
Section 1 Beginning in 2011, a slate of candidates shall be presented at least two weeks before
the elections at a meeting or by e-mail. Officers will be elected inOctober and serve the following year.
Section 2 Nominations will be solicited at the meeting prior to the election and by e-mail.
Section 3 Nominations can be made from the floor on the day of the election.
Section 4 Voting for all officers shall be by a simple majority at the October meeting.
Section 5 Once elected officers will not also be chairs of committees.
